SGSAH EVENT – 2/04/25

APPLICATION DEADLINE : WEDNESDAY 26 MARCH AT 23:59

PHD COLLABORATIVE WORKSHOP
WEDNESDAY 2 APRIL 2025

ALL DAY (09:30 ARRIVAL FOR 10:00 START)
EDINBURGH FUTURES INSTITUTE, UNIVERSITY OF EDINBURGH

DESCRIPTION

This hands-on workshop will address the dearth of research to build new urban narratives, to underpin sustainable and just cities (Perry et al, 2020). Selected doctoral researchers from a range of disciplines will gather at the Edinburgh Futures Institute (and remotely) to collaboratively produce creative practice approaches to future-making within an urban World Heritage site.

Focusing teamwork on a contested urban location at the heart of Edinburgh, participants will be encouraged to experiment with a range of methods including architectural design, photography, video and narrative forms (poetry, spoken word). Participants will receive information on site context ahead of time. Further site material (photos, videos) will be made available to teams on the day.

The workshop environment will be a unique space for interdisciplinary collaboration, research experimentation and creative expression, allowing researchers to discover new approaches that could enrich their own practice. It will also offer broader perspectives on creative urban practice in the context of contested place identities.
